If you have ever wondered about a
local park name, a new program in
Division 4 has commenced where
every park will have a plaque installed
detailing background information on
the people after whom each park is
named.
The first plaque in Hector Chapman
Park at Riverview was unveiled late last
year.
Hector Chapman was a mentor to the
Indigenous youth of the community
and drew fulfilment in life by helping
those less fortunate than himself.
Although Hector Chapman passed
away in 2004, his widow Moira was
present for the plaque unveiling.
His history and contribution to the
community and the Wakka Wakka
tribe is now on display for all to see
and future generations will be able to
learn about who he was and what he
did for his community.
The plaque naming project is set to
continue and will leave a lasting legacy
for the community.
If you have any information on a
park in our area we would welcome
your help in ensuring that our whole
community shares the knowledge and
ensures our local history is preserved.
MOTHER’S DAY TREE PLANTING
2013 saw the first ‘Trees for Mum’
Mother’s Day planting event. The
event will once again take place on
Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11 from
9am to 12pm at Gareth and Dorothy
Thomas Park. Come along with mum,
plant a tree and watch the area
transform each year. Register soon so
mum can receive a free gift on the day.
Bring along a hat, closed in shoes,
sunglasses, sunscreen and drinking
water. Phone 3810 6666 or visit
for more
information.
ROLLER DERBY FOR KIDS
Ipswich has its very own roller derby
league. The local league trains at the
Skateaway at Bundamba. For more
information or to get involved visit
rollerderbyipswichRDI.
