Fallen Soldiers Remembered
Division 4
Kerb and
Channelling
Cr Bruce Casos and local resident Ken
Durham are happy with the new kerb and
channelling along Clifton Street, Booval.
The lives of four fallen Ipswich
World War II veterans will never be
forgotten thanks to the dedication of
the Bundamba ANZAC Observance
Committee and local researcher
Eddie Habben.
A new plaque has been installed
on the Bundamba War Memorial
acknowledging Clement Ralph
Buckeridge, David Arthur Millar,
Michael James Kelleher and Alexander
Carrington Titmarsh’s service.
The memorial addition will ensure
the community remembers the role
these servicemen played in World
War II to secure the peace that we
treasure today.
Local researcher Eddie Habben
spent hours carrying out research
through the National Archive and the
Australian War Memorial to identify
the names which should be added to
the memorial.
The Bundamba ANZAC Observance
Committee and council worked
together to make sure these local men
were officially recognised as Fallen
World War II veterans, with the plaque
being funded by council.
A special ceremony was held in 2013 to
commemorate the event.
Cr Bruce Casos and Mayor Paul Pisasale pay
tribute to the fallen soldiers.
A number of kerb and channel
and footpath projects have been
completed over the past couple of
months in Division 4, with several new
projects planned for the near future.
A complete makeover has
transformed Schelbach Street, Booval
through the installation of footpath,
kerb and channelling and road
construction.
Kerb and channelling has started
on Bognuda Street at Bundamba
between Bird and Boundary Streets
on the eastern side and plans are
underway for kerb and channelling
along George Street at Blackstone and
footpath construction in Elms Street,
Bundamba.
Work was recently completed in
Clifton Street, Booval with infill kerb
and channelling and extra footpath
together with a complete road
overlay.
This work is a good example of the
many smaller projects badly needed
in Ipswich’s older suburbs to provide a
huge increase in amenity for residents.
Another project completed was 280
metres of footpath that was installed
in Burgoyne and Craies Streets in
Bundamba, completing a pedestrian
link to Alfred Seymour Park for the
convenience of all.
