COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
GRANTS
To acknowledge and recognise the
important and valuable role community
organisations play in contributing to the
city’s community spirit, the Community
Development Grants program provides
funding to not-for-profit organisations
for projects which respond to
local needs and issues. For more
information or an application form,
visit council’s website.
NETWORKING FOR SENIORS
Seniors play an important role in the
community and council has an online
directory for a number of seniors
groups that actively engage in our city.
It’s important for seniors to have a
voice and a great way to do this is by
joining the Seniors Consultative Group
to inform council of your needs and
concerns. It is also a great way to make
new friends and network with other
seniors in the community.
Ipswich City Council is providing
seniors the opportunity to experience
a variety of activities and learn
about adopting a nutritious diet as
part of its Ageing Stronger, Active
Longer program.
Ipswich residents aged 60 and over
and Indigenous residents aged 55 and
over can take part in the free program.
Sessions include low impact fitness as
well as interactive and motivational
education, and morning tea and lunch
are provided.
Sessions are held in council’s
Humanities Building for eight weeks
from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Residents wishing to participate
can register by phoning Nicole on
3810 6671. Bookings are essential.

SPRINGFIELD HOSPITAL
Stage One of the new Mater Private
Hospital in Springfield will provide a
range of medical and surgical services as
well as a dedicated cancer care centre
once completed. The five level, 10,000
square metre facility will also include
four operating theatres, inpatient wards,
a day surgery unit and medical imaging
services. The cancer care centre will
initially have one linear accelerator and 15
medical oncology treatment bays.
NEW FOOTPATHS PLANNED
Concept plans have been issued to
install a new footpath along Ingles Drive,
Redbank Plains. The footpath will start
at School Road along Ingles Drive and
join up with the footpath in Olive Smith
Street. Once completed, the project will
provide a safe walking path for school
children to access School Road and
continue on to Redbank Plains State
School.
Participants enjoy some low impact exercise in
the Ageing Stronger, Active Longer program.

This is the tenth anniversary of our
divisional newsletters and while we
don’t live in the past, it is interesting
to see the changes that have
occurred over time.
Many of you will note our
boundaries have been altered on
several occasions and I’ve really
enjoyed the opportunities to
improve our city’s infrastructure in
our newly adopted areas.
Some of the issues for this year I
would like to remind residents of
is school parking. Take care and be
considerate, especially around two
minute drop-off zones. Another
parking reminder, please don’t park
on our footpaths. The council flyer
Parking on Footpaths is available
from divisional offices and can be
downloaded online and makes the
point about pedestrian safety.
I look forward to another exciting
year in Division 9.
