Welcome to the third edition
of the revitalised Ipswich
Connect magazine.
Budgets have never been more
difficult to balance and projects have
never been more difficult to fund as
we operate in a climate where both
the State and Federal Governments
are in slash and burn mode to
balance their own budgets.
This means cutting grants and
opportunities to Local Government
– even before we look at our rates
and revenue. Many projects are long
term and I have projects in mind that
I know will take at least five years to
deliver. That’s the wonderful thing
about being a longer term Councillor.
I was elected in 1991 and I can mould
and shape projects and watch them
move up the ladder for funding.

Ipswich t-shirts capture
essence of our city
Planes, trains and automobiles – the
history and essence of the City of
Ipswich has been captured in two t-shirt
designs which are now on sale in the
Queens Park Visitor Information Centre.
Council worked with local graphic
design and textile company Tandem E
to come up with some unique t-shirt
concepts for Ipswich. They came
back with some great designs that
portrayed what Ipswich is famous for.
There are two t-shirt designs,
one features planes, trains and
automobiles, while the other is an
old-fashioned train ticket and features
the history of railway in Ipswich.
Tens of thousands of visitors are
attracted to Ipswich each year, lured
by an interest in the city’s rail history,
a love of motorsport, a passion for
the RAAF Base, in particular the RAAF
Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre,
and now residents can take home
a souvenir of these treasures which
Ipswich is proud to share.
The shirts are on sale in a range of
sizes for $24.95 each.
Chair of Tourism Cr David Pahlke tries on
the new shirts with Cr Bruce Casos.
