Rosewood, Walloon, Marburg and Thagoona are in line for a significant program of road rehabilitation and resurfacing works following advocacy by Division 4 Councillors for their local community.
Council will deliver a boost of $1.63 million in upgrades to Rosewood, Walloon, Marburg and Thagoona after local residents felt the area had been forgotten in previous years.
Works will continue from August to November, with an additional $3.63 million in longer-term upgrades to follow for both culvert replacement and road pavement reconstruction on Adelong Avenue, Thagoona.
Division 4 Councillors Russell Milligan and Kate Kunzelmann said Council was delivering the biggest boost to local roads that Thagoona and surrounds have seen for many years.
“Feedback from the community was a key driver for this significant investment. We’ve combined local input and expert assessments to ensure the best outcome for the community,” Councillor Milligan said.
“Council will now replace the drainage culverts along Adelong Avenue (adjacent to Kavanagh Road East) after independent culvert inspections and subsequent assessments found this would deliver ratepayers the best value for money.”
“This is a fantastic outcome for the local community. Council is standing by its commitment that established suburbs won’t be left behind as Ipswich continues to grow,” Councillor Kunzelmann said.
“I would like to thank residents for their feedback and patience as we roll out the first stage between now and November.”
Initial works will impact the following locations:
* Banyula Road, Thagoona
* Carara Avenue, Thagoona
* Kanandah Court, Thagoona
* Kipara Road, Thagoona
* Thagoona Haigslea Road, Thagoona
* Yarrow Road, Rosewood
* Brushbox Place, Walloon
* Edmond Street, Marburg
* Kennedy Street, Marburg
* Lawrence Street, Marburg
* Sharp Lane, Walloon
Resurfacing work is being carried out from 9 to 27 August for the Thagoona and Rosewood schedule, with surfacing and line-marking set to follow alongside works in Marburg and Walloon.
The pavement-only rehabilitation along the entire 1.6km length of Adelong Avenue – between Thagoona-Haigslea Road and Cummins Road – will follow culvert and drainage works, with future Budget allocations to enable the road overhaul.
Council allocated $13.5 million to road resurfacing across Ipswich in the 2021-22 Budget.
