Cr Marnie Doyle has released the following statement after resigning her role as Deputy Mayor. She will continue as Councillor for Division 3 and as committee chairperson for the Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee.
"I can confirm I advised the Mayor, Councillors and CEO on Wednesday 16 September of my resignation from the position of Deputy Mayor of Ipswich City Council, effective 5pm Wednesday 23 September.
"As an ordinary council meeting will be held on Thursday 24 September and in the best interests of the city, this allows my colleagues to immediately appoint a new Deputy Mayor without leaving the position vacant for any period of time.
"I have decided to step down from the position of Deputy Mayor and give one of the other councillors the opportunity to undertake the role.
"The position of Deputy Mayor was always intended to be rotated, initially anticipated to occur on a 12-monthly basis.
"However, I have decided now is the perfect time for someone else to step into the role.
"The first six months as elected representatives was an extremely busy time for all councillors, and undertaking the Deputy Mayor role saw my focus spread across many aspects of council, not just Division 3.
"I plan on taking the opportunity, as my fellow councillors have been able to do over the last six months, to cement my role in the community of Ipswich, in particular Division 3, to ensure I am always accessible to residents and community groups.
"I will remain chairperson for the Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee – an exciting project I am honoured to lead."
