Ipswich parkrun events on hold while insurance issues worked out

04 December 2020

Parkrun officials, on behalf of the Ipswich-based White Rock parkrun, applied for a permit recently to use White Rock Spring Mountain Conservation Estate for ongoing parkrun purposes.

The permit application was rejected by Ipswich City Council due to the fact that the parkrun’s Public Liability Insurance (PLI) coverage was not in accordance with council’s minimum $20 million PLI requirements for all user groups booking use of council sports, parks and facilities. This presents a risk to council, parkrun and the community.

Parkrun Australia has provided further information to council in regard to their insurance coverage for council consideration.

Council is presently reviewing this information and assessing the level of risk to the community and council in accordance with council policy and appropriate governance requirements.

Council will work with Parkrun Australia and relevant council departments to develop and establish appropriate risk assessments and risk management plans to ensure minimal risk to the community and council.

Council has no timeframes on when this work will be completed.

The above was also applicable to the Limestone Park, Ipswich and Augustine Heights parkrun venues.

Council’s minimum $20 million PLI requirements are consistent with other South East Queensland councils in relation to parkrun venues.
