Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding has today welcomed a $2.5 million funding commitment towards the next stage of the business case for the Ipswich to Springfield Central public transport corridor by the LNP if it wins government in October.
It comes days after Ipswich City Council released its election advocacy brochure, which targeted five regionally-significant projects for investment from the state including the game-changing 25 kilometre public transport corridor project.
“This latest announcement is great news for Ipswich, with the Ipswich to Springfield Central public transport corridor now having funding commitments from both major political parties,” Mayor Harding said.
“However, with the countdown to the election now on, what we need now in Ipswich are further commitments from all parties to major infrastructure projects and policy reform.
“Our election advocacy brochure highlighted four other critical projects for our region including: the Ipswich Central Second River Crossing, Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area, Waste and Planning Act reform and the North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct.
“These projects, like the Ipswich to Springfield Central public transport corridor, are vital for the region, and crucial to securing jobs, growth and investment for Ipswich for decades to come.”
LNP Candidate for Ipswich Scott O’Connell said the public transport corridor project would help support Ipswich’s booming population which is expected to rise from 230,000 to 558,000 by 2041.
“The LNP believes this project will create thousands of local jobs in construction, improves network efficiency and reduce local congestion,” Mr O’Connell said.
“Delivering an Options Analysis is the critical next step in the process of the Ipswich to Springfield Public Transport Corridor.”
