The Ipswich Show holiday will be held on Friday 14 May 2021, pending approval from the state government.
Council voted to accept the recommended date from the Ipswich Show Society and will now write to the Office of Industrial Relations to apply for the public holiday.
Mayor Teresa Harding said that the community would no doubt, be looking forward to next year’s event.
"Next year’s show will be a great opportunity to celebrate our city, and to showcase produce and performers from across the Ipswich region," Mayor Harding said.
"We’re looking forward to gathering with the community and making the 2021 Ipswich Show one of the most successful yet."
2020 was only the second time in the show’s 150-year-history that the show was cancelled. Only a World War has stopped it in the past before it was called off to stop the spread of COVID-19 this year.
The annual three-day show has an estimated economic benefit to the city of more than $1 million.
