Be counted to improve community services and infrastructure

Ipswich residents are being encouraged to be counted in this year’s Census on Tuesday 10 August to help improve community services and infrastructure for the future.
Mayor Teresa Harding said it is crucial everyone completes the Census as it provides important information about our community.
“The last Census told us that Ipswich is a young and growing community,” Mayor Harding said.
“The Census not only tells a story, the information collected through this year’s Census will help inform important community services and tell us the kind of infrastructure we need for our fast-growing community, from libraries to art galleries and parks.
“Ipswich’s population is projected to reach 558,000 residents by 2041 and the Census will help Council understand where future growth is likely to occur and help us provide better planning for our future.
“Ipswich is also home to migrants from 163 countries of origin, speaking over 152 different languages and this year’s Census will help council better understand the diverse needs of our multicultural community.
“That’s why it’s so important we all take part in the Census on Tuesday 10 of August, to ensure our community is counted.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a citizen, a resident, or just visiting, everyone who is in Australia on Census night should complete the Census.”
The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) is available on 131 450 to assist those requiring additional in-language support. TIS provides access to interpreters who speak more than 160 languages.
This year, people can start their Census as soon as they receive instructions if they know where they’ll be on Tuesday 10 August.
