Ipswich City Council has launched a new dedicated Business Ipswich website which aims to foster investment and business growth within the city.
The platform serves to welcome and connect local business, government and external stakeholders, in order to nurture an ecosystem for the business community and highlight some of the of great businesses that contribute to the region.
Mayor Teresa Harding said small businesses are at the centre of the Ipswich community.
“Local enterprise is the backbone of our economy, creating jobs for families and providing essential goods and services,” Mayor Harding said.
“Council is committed to listening to Ipswich’s small businesses, our initiatives for financial support, events, education and process improvement all start with one question: how will they connect opportunities and challenges faced by local traders with outcomes?
“Business Ipswich provides local traders with economic and lifestyle information to inform their strategic plans, and shows what Ipswich has to offer to a wider business and investor audience.”
Deputy Mayor and Economic and Industry Development Chair Nicole Jonic said Ipswich is a great place to do business.
“We are excited to launch the new Business Ipswich website as another way to support the economic growth of the region,” Cr Jonic said.
“With an abundance of land opportunities to invest and grow business, coupled with exponential population growth, Ipswich is a great place to do business.
“Small businesses play a vital role in Ipswich’s economy and we are launching this website during Queensland Small Business Month as part of our ongoing commitment to be a small business friendly council.”
The Launch comes after Mayor Harding and Deputy Mayor Jonic highlighted council’s user-centred approach to small business support and partnerships with key organisations at the Queensland Small Business Friendly Councils Conference in Brisbane on Friday.
Mayor Harding presented alongside state and national leaders in small business support, including Qld Small Business Commissioner Ms Maree Adshead, and Hon Di Farmer MP, Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development.
Council doubled its spend on local suppliers over the six months to quarter one, 2021, from 13.5 per cent to 27.3 per cent, after the Buy Ipswich Procurement Policy was adopted in June 2020.
The Policy, which sought to leverage council funds to support local business, has seen $10.94 million contributed to Ipswich businesses since its launch.
