Council waives tip fees for storm-impacted residents

Ipswich residents impacted by last year’s Halloween hailstorms will be able to dispose of storm-damaged waste for free this April, as Ipswich City Council waives their fees to its refuse and recycling centres.
Between 9 April and 9 May 2021, Rosewood, Willowbank and Springfield Lakes residents will have access to free dumping at council’s Rosewood and Riverview refuse and recycling centres.
Mayor Teresa Harding said council was committed to supporting the city’s storm-impacted residents as recovery efforts continue following the October 2020 hailstorms.
“Our Springfield Lakes, Willowbank and Rosewood residents are still reeling from the unprecedented hailstorms that decimated homes, cars and property in October last year,” Mayor Harding said.
“Their hardship and suffering has only been compounded by the prolonged recovery and reconstruction efforts and the recent wet weather events across South East Queensland.
“Council is committed to providing special relief for these residents through our new recovery and reconstruction taskforce.”
The taskforce, which is chaired by Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic, continues to ramp up its activities this April.
“We are actively listening to our storm-impacted residents and what they need, and we have heard their calls for access to free dumping of storm-damaged items and debris,” Cr Jonic said.
“So, as part of this special relief, impacted residents will not be required to pay tip fees for the month of April so they can dispose of storm-damaged material.”
To be eligible for the fee waiver, residents must live in Rosewood, Willowbank or Springfield Lakes and have been impacted by the hailstorms on 31 October 2020.
To access the fee waiver, eligible residents must register online, and allow 24 business hours before attending one of the city’s refuse and recycling centres.

There is a limit of 1,000 kilograms of waste per residential address.
No commercial, construction or demolition waste will be accepted.
Cr Jonic thanked the wider community for its support.
“This disaster really requires co-ordination and collaboration across responsible agencies, stakeholders, industry and the community,” Cr Jonic said.
“Council has been working closely with the State Government, YMCA, Lifeline and insurance providers to provide ongoing support to our storm-impacted residents.
“I’m so pleased to report that since the establishment of the recovery and reconstruction taskforce we have really seen key players step up to the plate.”
