Goal kicked for local sports club with new nets

Golden boots and long-range kickers have plenty to celebrate at the Rosewood Roosters Rugby League Club, after council installed $52,000 in new nets at the Anzac Park playing fields.
The new 12m x 40m nets were installed following feedback from user groups regarding safety concerns and lost playing balls.
Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said it was an example of council working with the community to provide a practical solution to address a local concern.
“The location of the goalposts at Anzac Park means that footballs were regularly being kicked out of play and into the adjacent rail corridor,” Cr Milligan said.
“The footballs looked unsightly laying on the train line and, because they could not be easily retrieved, there was an extra cost for players and the club in having to replace them.”
Cr Kate Kunzelmann said she was pleased council was able to work with the Rosewood Roosters Rugby League Club to provide a solution.
“The club reached out to council and through listening and collaborating we have been able to deliver a workable solution to keep more balls in play,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“This means fewer club resources being lost and will also improve the amenity of the area because the rail corridor will no longer be littered with wayward footballs.”
