Ipswich City Council’s Residential Swimming Pool Safety Education and Awareness Program are offering free CPR Awareness sessions at Redbank Plains Community Centre and Riverview Community Centre throughout April and May.
The program is designed to raise awareness around performing practical CPR to equip residents with practical skills that may help to save a life in a situation where a person is drowning or in cardiac arrest.
In 2020, 62 people drowned in Queensland alone and Ipswich City Council is committed to assisting residents to gain valuable skills that may help to save a life.
The free CPR Awareness Program is for residents of Ipswich and aims to educate and create awareness of CPR and how to perform practical CPR among the community.
The sessions run for 90 minutes and are intended to help to develop skills of a single operator in adult, child and infant CPR.
The sessions are also planned to raise awareness on how to perform CPR and can provide information on gaining a full CPR qualification.
Mayor Teresa Harding said she would like to encourage Ipswich residents to participate in the program.
“You’ll never regret having CPR skills, especially if you have children or find yourself in an emergency situation,” Mayor Harding said.
“Knowing what to do in an emergency could save a life so I encourage residents to enrol in this free program.”
