Ipswich City Council has begun works on the Caledonian Park shed at Thagoona which currently stores sporting equipment next to Rosewood United Soccer Club.
The works are expected to be finished mid-June, weather permitting.
The works include removing and replacing the existing storage shed with a 12m x 9m shed including awning, construction of a new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant concrete footpath to link to the storage shed to the existing kiosk and car park, construction of a concrete Persons with Disability (PWD) carpark and shared zone that connects to the existing footpath and the landscaping of all areas affected by construction works.
Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said council is committed to ensuring all council facilities are accessible.
“Council is committed to supporting our residents and ensuring our facilities are accessible to all community members,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
Councillor Russell Miligan said he is excited to see the community using this new space.
“This new shed will be a welcome addition to the Thagoona community and will benefit all community members at large by providing an accessible place to meet and store sporting equipment,” Cr Milligan said.
The proposed works will not have any impact on the playing fields, and the area of works will be fully fenced off to allow the construction activities to be completed safely.
