The Ipswich Art Awards will be held in May 2022, profiling Ipswich’s thriving arts community while celebrating all types of visual art.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the Ipswich Art Awards have been held annually since 2000, with the exception of 2020 when they had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.
“The awards have been and are the foremost visual arts awards for the Ipswich region, attracting around 200 entries and 2,000 spectators every year,” Mayor Harding said.
“The primary purpose of the Ipswich Art Awards is to profile established and emerging artists of the Ipswich region, providing a platform for engagement, recognition and professional development.
“A vibrant creative sector is crucial to the prosperity and liveability of Ipswich, and council is committed to ensuring creators are supported.”
Returning from Friday 20 May 2022 until Sunday 29 May 2022, the Ipswich Art Awards will comprise a free 10-day exhibition, an opening night, and an awards night.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sports Committee chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said the annual awards celebrate Ipswich’s thriving visual art community.
“The much-anticipated annual awards bring the community together to recognise and celebrate talented local visual artists,” Cr Fechner said.
“The awards and ten-day exhibition of entries is an absolute highlight of the Ipswich arts calendar.
“I can’t wait to see the works submitted next year.”
