Ipswich’s population has grown to 236,105 with 1,491 new residents moving to Ipswich in the third quarter of this year, according to Ipswich City Council’s latest quarterly planning and development report.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the results in the 1 July to 30 September snapshot are a vote of confidence in the city’s affordability and lifestyle offerings.
“To put that into perspective, that is an additional 5,987 residents now calling Ipswich home since the same time last year,” Mayor Harding said.
“More and more people are discovering Ipswich and voting with their feet.
“Ipswich is set to welcome another 325,000 residents by 2041, and residents will expect to see more investment in transport and social infrastructure to keep Ipswich liveable.
“These figures highlight the urgent need to get building on projects like the Ipswich to Springfield Central Public Transport Corridor (I2S), and to make sure planning is advanced on things like schools, transport and community infrastructure, as well as healthcare, police and fire stations.”
A total of 87,134 dwellings currently make up Ipswich residences, which is 2,476 more dwellings than the same time last year.
In this past quarter, 1,002 lots were approved for future growth, which is a 120 per cent increase from the previous quarter.
Ripley has added the most homes with 91 being built and a total of 292 residents moving into the suburb.
Spring Mountain had the second largest population boost with 210 residents moving into the suburb with 73 homes built.
Deebing Heights had growth of 204 people and 64 homes followed by South Ripley with 144 residents moving in and 45 new homes.
Collingwood Park had 125 residents moving in along with 42 new dwellings.
Supporting infrastructure also grew with 8.74 kilometres of additional local roads and 13.16 kilometres of pathways and bikeways completed.
