Ipswich businesses impacted by floods can turn to Ipswich City Council’s dedicated website offering a range of support and information.
The go-to page can be found at 2022 Flood Businesses Resources – Business Ipswich and provides details on key recovery topics including financial support, waste services and volunteer information.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Teresa Harding said council’s dedicated business support page, which is now live, was a critical resource for flood affected businesses.
“Our businesses are the engine room of the local economy, and many have taken a hit because of the recent rains and floodwaters,” Mayor Harding said.
“As if they hadn’t already been doing it tough: two years of COVID had seen many go to the wall and business bottom lines severely impacted. This could not have come at a worse time.
“Council is there to support our business community and our recovery assistance page will hopefully provide some vital help in their moment of need as they fight to get back on their feet.”
The page is a direct link to council’s Disaster Dashboard, the State Government’s Small Business Disaster Hub, plus advises businesses on where to go for grants and support services.
Economic and Industry Development Chair Cr Nicole Jonic, whose Division 2 residents and businesses have been among the hardest hit by the floods, said help was there for the business community.
“My heart goes out to every business owner impacted by this latest weather event. I have been out there on the streets and witnessed first-hand what a cruel blow this has dealt to the business community already doing it so tough,” Cr Jonic said.
“Council is there with the community and will do whatever it can to assist and get businesses up and running and customers and clients coming through the doors again.”
Cr Jonic said council officers have been going door to door to assess the individual needs of these flood-impacted businesses.
Council is also offering Firestation 101 facilities for local businesses to use, businesses are being asked to call 3810 7534 or email business@ipswich.qld.gov.au
“One of the saddest aspects of this disaster is that many of our businesses are not insured and they have lost everything. They need the community’s help right now if they have any chance of surviving and restarting again,” Cr Jonic said.
