Have a say on the City's natural environment priorities

Your say is needed to guide Ipswich City Council on priorities towards a healthy natural environment.
Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said community input could be made through the Shape Your Ipswich platform as council develops a draft Natural Environment Strategy.
“We want people to tell us why they love visiting and being in natural areas, and what their priorities are for now and the future,” Cr Milligan said.
“Is it creating more homes for native animals, safeguarding areas of Indigenous cultural heritage, ensuring we have urban trees for shade, connecting areas for wildlife movement, or is it about having local nature-based recreation or eco-tourism experiences?”
“We want you to share with us what you feel are the priority areas where council should focus its resources and create a healthier natural environment for us all.”
Councillor Milligan said the development of the new strategy had also taken on board recent feedback from community engagement for iFuture, the Natural Environment Policy and Sustainability Policy.
“This strategy is an evolution of the feedback already received from the community. The draft themes open for public input are reflective of what Ipswich people have told us they want,” Cr Milligan said.
“Now it’s time to check-in that we are heading in the right direction as we develop this strategy for Ipswich’s natural environment.”
Councillor Milligan said the draft strategy would be one of the first things discussed by council’s new Community Panel on 26 April.
“The Natural Environment Strategy is a catalyst project, so we encourage the community to be involved in our City’s future,” Cr Milligan said.
