How you can help during this flooding disaster

As the rain eases in Ipswich, the deluge of generosity has begun.
Local Disaster Management Group Chairperson Mayor Teresa Harding said the Ipswich community is ready to roll up their sleeves.
“Ipswich is a wonderful, caring community and we have had lots of people reaching out to see how they can help,” Mayor Harding said.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our community and best way to help the most people is to go in with a coordinated approach.
“There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to volunteer their time and assist with the clean-up once flood waters have receded.
“For those who wish to volunteer in the recovery of current flood events please register your interest with Volunteering Queensland EVCREW at register.emergencyvolunteering.com.au.
“GIVIT is also coordinating donations at givit.org.au.”
Local Disaster Management Group Deputy Chairperson Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said she wanted to give a big heart felt thank you to those already putting their hand up to help.
“If you want to lend a hand see if your neighbours, friends and family need help first and if you formally want to volunteer your time then please register with Volunteering Queensland EVCREW,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“Now is the time to stay safe and listen to official advice from Council, Local Disaster Management Group and State Government agencies.”
Local Disaster Management Group Deputy Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said it is wonderful to be part of a community that is so willing to pull together.
“The threat has not passed but people are throwing their doors open and offering assistance of food and essentials,” Cr Milligan said.
“We are encouraging those interesting in assisting to register their details with Volunteering Queensland EVCREW so when the call comes it can be a coordinated approach.”
