Ipswich works with neighbouring council for waste and recycling services

Ipswich City Council is providing waste and recycling services to Somerset Regional Council residents for the next seven years at least.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said council is pleased to join with Somerset to provide an efficient waste and recycling service to residents.
“Local government plays an integral role in the delivery of waste and recycling services, especially to households, and together we can improve how waste is managed,” Mayor Harding said.
“Ipswich City Council aims to deliver best practice waste management in line with community’s expectations and that includes offering a recycling service for the first time to the entire Somerset region.”
Ipswich City Council will begin the new long-term service in the Somerset region from September 2022.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the contract is for collections, bin deliveries and repairs, as well as removing materials from transfer stations
“This is a new era for waste management in Somerset with the introduction of kerbside recycling services to all households who receive a kerbside waste collection service,” Cr Lehmann said.
“Council is excited to take this important step towards reducing the amount of waste heading to landfill and is delighted to be working with our neighbours, Ipswich City Council, to deliver this important service to our residents.
“The partnership with Ipswich City to provide the bin collection services follows an extensive public tender process.”
