Summit provides opportunity for Ipswich’s creatives

09 June 2022

The Creators of Ipswich Summit is back for 2022, providing an opportunity for Ipswich creatives to come together, be inspired, expand networks and upskill.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said following the success of the 2020 summit, council is pleased to continue to play a role in connecting Ipswich’s creative community again.

“Council is committed to supporting local creators,” Cr Fechner said.

“The Creators of Ipswich Summit is a free event that provides an important opportunity to connect the creative community, build capability and help develop the local creative industry.

“This is a deliverable of the Creative Industries Action Plan and an important part of the continuing journey towards achieving our art community’s creative vision and to create a positive arts and cultural future for Ipswich.

“The summit follows the highly successful 23rd annual Ipswich Art Awards which saw a diverse showing of more than 350 pieces of outstanding visual artwork from current and emerging artists.

“As we grow our creative economy, we see the local arts community as a driver of innovation and a catalyst for economic transformation.”

The summit has an interactive program allowing creatives to choose to engage with activities based on their creative interests and needs.

“Ipswich-raised, internationally recognised director and performer Natano Fa'anana is the key speaker,” Cr Fechner said.

“This year there will also be roundtable networking opportunities for artists and industry alike, a conversation on Public Art and workshop sessions on grants and marketing for creatives and creative businesses.”
