Bumper visitor numbers for Nicholas Street Precinct across April

The Nicholas Street Precinct enjoyed record visitation across April, with visitors enjoying free school holiday activities, a record-breaking Tunes in Tulmur and a host of family friendly events.
April’s total visitation tipped 90,000 – the highest traffic month to date, surpassing the popular December Christmas period.
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson and Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said it was incredibly exciting to see so many people coming to the Nicholas Street Precinct to enjoy such a varied range of free activities for all the family.
“The total visitation for our two weeks of April school holiday activities came close to 50,000,” Cr Doyle said.
“Families enjoyed our CoComelon stage performances, mini bowling, mini putt putt and the climbing wall in the first week of school holidays, while the second week offered outdoor games, splash play and library activities at our wonderful Ipswich Children’s Library and Ipswich Central Library.
“On top of these fantastic visitation numbers, the 28 April Tunes in Tulmur event – featuring Cold Chisel and AC/DC cover bands and a meet-and-greet with the Australian Superbike Champions – topped 4,500 visitors.
“This was followed up on 29 April with the Park and Pose event as part of the Planes, Trains and Automobiles Festival, featuring vehicles from the Classic and Muscle Car Club of Ipswich, which welcomed about 4,000 visitors.”
Division 3 Councillor Andrew Fechner said the strong numbers demonstrated the diversity of events on offer for all Ipswich residents in the city centre.
“From the regular Handmade Markets and Tunes in Tulmur events, to dedicated school holiday festivities, council is committed to bringing life back to our city’s heart, and it’s clear that Ipswich residents are responding,” Cr Fechner said.
“Council will continue offering more exciting options for entertainment, recreation and families across the Nicholas Street Precinct.
“We expect continued strong visitation numbers at the next Handmade Market on 13 May, and Tunes in Tulmur on 26 May.”
