Counting down to Ipswich Sustainable Living Festival

Ipswich’s inaugural Sustainable Living Festival is just days away.
Ipswich City Council Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Deputy Mayor Russell Milligan said the festival is a major highlight of council and community events scheduled throughout October to celebrate Sustainable Ipswich season.
“Sustainable Ipswich season is the perfect opportunity to be inspired by the latest knowledge and ideas for living sustainably at home, work and play,” Deputy Mayor Milligan said.
“We know from developing our community vision that Ipswich aspires to lead the way as a clean and green city with a circular economy.
“There are many ways the community can get involved, with a huge program of free and low-cost events underway throughout October.
“Celebrating its first year in the Sustainable Ipswich program, the Ipswich Sustainable Living Festival is set to be a one-stop-shop for living sustainably in our city.
“Come this Saturday, Tulmur Place will be a hive of activity with a collection of free sustainability speakers and activities for the whole family, including practical demonstrations, live family entertainment, food stalls, upcycled artisans, workshops, council’s mobile nursery and more.
“Dedicated zones will cover everything you need to make sustainability a part of everyday life, from an efficient home and sustainable kitchen and garden, to getting around and buying better.
“The whole family is catered for, with Urban Utilities Water Warriors making a splash in their high energy water sustainability performance perfect for young ones learning about saving our precious water.
“Holey bin Amoley by Art Earthlings will have the kids in stitches with their interactive comedy show featuring bumbling bin-vestigators.
“Lisa Carroll from Rosewood-based ‘Soapbayz’ will be sharing her fresh perspective on the circular economy, after building a successful small business turning waste products from breweries, wineries and tea and coffee brands to create beautiful and sustainable soap products.
“With 30 years of experience growing food, Phil Dudman will bring a bounty of knowledge on increasing your backyard production and composting using sustainable gardening techniques.
“And in celebration of International Repair Day on the same day, Griffith University’s Repair Café will show you how to save household items from landfill by repairing rather than replacing.
“With a jam-packed day of action to look forward to in just its first year, the Ipswich Sustainability Living Festival is shaping up to be a must-do event in the city’s calendar and an inspirational day out.”
Deputy Mayor Milligan said other events in the Sustainable Ipswich season include a worm farming from home workshop at Rosewood Library to learn how to start, feed and care for a worm farm using household items, as well as a Local Sustainable Business Forum on 27 October.
“There really is something for everyone throughout this year’s Sustainable Ipswich season,” Deputy Mayor Milligan said.
“By working together, Ipswich can be a vibrant and sustainable city for current and future generations.”
Ipswich Sustainable Living Festival is on this Saturday 21 October, 9am to 1pm, at Tulmur Place in Ipswich Central.
