Last minute Christmas markets, dazzling emergency services vehicles, popcorn and movies are just some of the family-friendly events scheduled for the next seven days in Ipswich.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said after the incredible success of St Nicholas Precinct’s stunning light displays and food trucks, the fun was continuing all week.
“Counting down to Christmas, now is the time to explore all that Ipswich has to offer for families and visitors alike,” Mayor Harding said.
“In the evening, pack a blanket and come down to the Nicholas Street Precinct for Cinema under the Stars, presented in partnership with HOYTS.
“On Tuesday 19 December, enjoy ‘Elf’ screening from 6.30pm, and Wednesday 20 December, it’s time for ‘The Grinch’.
“If you’re still ticking off your Christmas presents, make sure to drop by the Riverlink market zone on Thursday 21 December, or the Orion Twilight Christmas markets on Friday 22 December.
“There are dozens of artisans offering handmade gifts and crafts at our popular markets, bringing something special to your gift-giving this year.
“Throughout the week there is so much happening across Ipswich for all residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said kid-friendly discos would occur at Rosewood Library and Ipswich Children’s Library on Thursday and Friday mornings.
“From 6pm on Thursday 21 December, take the kids to the Nicholas Street Precinct to enjoy Santa and Sirens, a fantastic display of emergency service vehicles decorated in festive cheer, with a special appearance from the big man himself,” Cr Fechner said.
“And on Saturday 23 December, The Nutcracker arrives at Orion Springfield Central, with performances at 4pm and 6.30pm.
“Across the whole week, take a drive and explore the fantastic Christmas lights on display from our popular competition.
“Christmas is a time for celebrating, exploring, and spending time with family and friends. Council is proud to put on a host of events for everyone, and we wish you all a merry Christmas.”
