Have your say on use of community land in Springfield

Ipswich City Council is looking to release parcels of land in the Springfield area for potential future development into facilities for the benefit of the community.
Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said community groups are invited to say how the land should be used to improve quality of life for residents.
“This is a unique opportunity to turn three blocks of land into something useful for everyone to enjoy,” Mayor Harding said.
”Each of the sites is currently vacant with no buildings or other improvements. The sites are not permitted to be used for commercial purposes.
“Council is inviting not-for profit incorporated community organisations to register their interest in the available land for community use in Springfield.”
Under the Springfield Infrastructure Plan, three parcels of land are dedicated to council for community use:
- 7004 Lakes Entrance Drive Springfield (Lot 5003SP285008)
- 79 Sierra Drive, Spring Mountain (Lot 4007SP304382)
- 12 Mount Juillerat Drive, Augustine Heights (Lot 33SP283508)
Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson and Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said some community organisations have enquired about land in the Springfield area that may be available for development and provision of their services.
“Council is inviting interested community organisations to register their interest to help identify possible options to activate the land for use by the wider community,” Cr Tully said.
“Community use provides either artistic, social, cultural, sporting, recreational facilities or community support services and activities to the public. Community centres and community halls are examples of premises used for community use.”
Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said any activation of the land must deliver social and community impact, which could include environmental options.
“This registration process will help in the evaluation of these requests and to identify the community use options available,” Cr Jonic said.
“A community organisation, or a consortium of community organisations, may wish to register their interest to use the land for community purposes.”
