Inclusion and Connectedness is the Plan

People with disabilities, their carers and those who work with people with disabilities are being asked to help shape a new plan to make Ipswich a more inclusive and connected community.
The Ipswich Inclusion and Connectedness Plan is open for community feedback through an online survey, community pop-ups and workshops and one-on-one sessions across the city.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said once developed, the plan would be an important tool to help improve inclusion and connectedness across Ipswich.
“Inclusion and connectedness is about giving every community member the same opportunities to participate in every aspect of life to the best of their abilities and desires,” Cr Fechner said.
“It is about understanding the barriers people with a disability and their carers face living their lives in Ipswich so we can better address their ongoing needs.
“It’s important that we hear from people with a disability, their carers and those who work with people with disabilities to make sure the final plan considers and responds to the needs of the Ipswich community.”
Spinal Life Australia Access and Advocacy Senior Advisor Dane Cross welcomed the positive community consultation that was taking place.
“We are very supportive of this plan as it is something that is being collaboratively created with the community,” Mr Dane said.
“The plan will address not just physical accessibility, but community attitudes, inclusive events and other opportunities that give full participation for everyone.”
Pop up consultation events will be held at:
- Rosewood Main Street, 8 March, 9am to 11am
- Brassall Shopping Centre, 8 March, noon to 4pm
- Springfield Central Library, 21 March, 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm.
