Major work to upgrade Cameron Park in Booval will begin in the New Year after council recently selected a contractor for the work.
Division 3 Councillor Andrew Fechner said Cameron Park was slated for new playgrounds and improved amenities to support the area’s growing population.
“Cameron Park is a popular and much-loved park situated between the suburbs of Booval, Silkstone and Newtown,” Cr Fechner said.
“Council sought feedback from the community in 2022 on a concept plan for significant upgrades to the park, and I’m delighted that the innovative playground design, inspired by the iconic Queenslander, will now come to life.
“The scope of work includes the refurbishment of the existing amenities block, and the provision of this bespoke play equipment.
“Council included the upgrade of Cameron Park in its 2023-2024 Capital Program after recognising the need for this park to be enhanced for the community.”
Council went to tender in September and received two conforming tenders, which were assessed by an evaluation scoring panel and the supplier recommended demonstrated a clear ability to complete the works and demonstrated value for money.
The supplier will utilise local suppliers to assist in the delivery of this project to the community.
Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said Cameron Park’s upgrade would proceed in stages.
“The welcome provision of $2 million through the South East Queensland Community Stimulus program will allow council to proceed with Stage 1 and 2 - the core of this project’s bespoke playground and amenity upgrades,” Cr Doyle said.
“This is an exciting project for our residents and one that will be very welcome to young families and families with older children looking for fun outdoor play areas.
“The bespoke playground design with its innovative Queenslander references includes a swing, carousel and musical play for people of all abilities, climbing net and obstacle course, slides for younger and older children, and wheelchair accessible pathways.
“I’m looking forward to Cameron Park’s new playground and improved amenities for our residents and visitors to enjoy.”
The project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus program in association with Ipswich City Council.
