Do you know a basketball player who shoots for the stars? A rugby coach who always tackles the competition? What about a track and field standout who is leaps and bounds ahead of others?
Be sure to nominate them for the 2023 Ipswich Sports Awards that open today (Monday 3 July).
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said the Ipswich Sports Awards were a wonderful acknowledgement of the Ipswich sporting community.
“Sport is a keystone of our community, encouraging us to be more active and involved, offering us moments of joy and excitement and helping us feel more connected to one another,” Cr Fechner said.
“The Ipswich Sports Awards celebrate those who participate in sport across our city and those who make that participation possible.
“Council is proud to host the 2023 Ipswich Sports Award, which continues our support of sport across the city that includes more than 60 council sporting facilities that welcome more than 150 clubs and organisations.”
The eight categories this year are: Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Team of the Year, Official of the Year, Sporting Organisation of the Year, Masters Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year and Senior Sportsperson of the Year.
In addition to the recognition, winners also receive $2,000 in prize money.
Nominate online at Ipswich Sports Awards by 13 August.
Winners will be announced at the 2023 Ipswich Sports Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 2 November.
