Council continues to support small business through new initiative

13 June 2024

Ipswich City Council’s commitment to being small business friendly continues with the launch of the New Business Breakfast initiative next month.

Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said the breakfast on Thursday 11 July would connect new businesses with available support, like-minded people and organisations to enable business growth in Ipswich.

“We recognise the challenges businesses face getting started, so we are assisting small businesses to access government, business and industry programs and resources, and helping them develop networks and access education,” Cr Augustine said.

Council has tapped into the Australian Business Register to reach out to newly recorded ABN holders, inviting them to attend and connect with council, as well as undertaking a social media campaign.

There are over 12,000 registered businesses in Ipswich with up to 500 new businesses opening their doors each year.

“Council is looking to connect with all businesses that have started up in Ipswich over the past two years. We want all businesses across Ipswich to sign up to our newsletter so they can keep up to date with events, education, news and information,” Cr Augustine said.

“For those new businesses who may not be able to attend the breakfast, council is still wanting to connect with you, so we encourage you to join our New Business Ipswich database.”

Cr Augustine said council released its Economic Development Strategy in late 2023, which focuses on four key pillars of People, Place, Prosperity and Partnerships.

“Council is striving to be a connected and engaged city, focusing on partnering with businesses and delivering on the Small Business Friendly Council charter,” Cr Augustine said.

“Council is proud to continue our efforts to support our small businesses under the Economic Development Strategy 2023-2027.”
