Council invites you to check out annual libraries survey

Ipswich City Council is reaching out to the community to find out how residents love their libraries through a quick online survey.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said Ipswich libraries are a treasured resource for many in the region and this latest survey will help shape future services and programs provided.
“Our libraries are more than just buildings filled with wonderful books. The modern library is a community hub where everyone is welcome, and there is something for everyone,” Mayor Harding said.
“They are beautiful spaces where community members can learn, create, connect and dream.
“Ipswich Libraries adopts a dynamic, innovative approach in providing a wide range of resources, from an extensive collection of books to advanced digital services and experiences.
“Council is committed to ensuring our libraries continue to deliver services that meet the diverse needs and interests of the Ipswich community.”
Library visitors enjoy extensive collections of books, DVDs and magazines for browsing and borrowing, including the Marketplace offering of popular and current items, fun children’s spaces, interactive digital technology in Makerspace areas, the opportunity to hear from diverse speakers and authors at Inspiration Hour sessions, and many other services and programs.
Mayor Harding said last year’s annual survey of 2,058 people revealed how residents use their library services.
“Our library services are state-of-the-art, with the award-winning Ipswich Children’s Library an incredibly popular place for families,” Mayor Harding said.
“At the core of this service are our staff, and residents had plenty to say last year to recognise the excellence of the council workers who deliver library programs, search for books, assist customers and in every way make our libraries such welcoming, friendly places.
“The most common suggestion from almost 60 percent of respondents, indicated they wanted to be able to access library services outside standard hours.
“In response Ipswich City Libraries has focused on providing Smart Lockers which can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Feedback also saw eBooks, eAudiobook and magazine collections expanded and more adult and children’s programs offered along with more events programmed for weeknights and weekends.”
Ipswich Libraries includes the Ipswich Central Library and Ipswich Children’s Library in Tulmur Place, Springfield Central Library, Redbank Plaza Library, Redbank Plains Library, Rosewood Library, the Karalee Library Pod as well as the Virtual Branch.
The survey runs from 13 May until 17 June and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
