Ipswich City Council is once again honouring one of the city’s leading residents with the 16th offering of the Viva Cribb Bursary.
Ipswich City Council Chief Executive Officer Sonia Cooper said the Viva Cribb Bursary offers up to $5,000 of funding to help with a project on a significant aspect of Ipswich’s local history and it is open for entry from now until 29 February 2024.
“The funding is up for grabs to individuals or non-profit groups assisting with costs related to a project that documents or records a significant aspect of the local history,” Ms Cooper said.
“The options are unlimited in terms of formats - from a book to an App, video or even oral history, as long as it is on someone, or something connected to Ipswich.
“Council is now calling on residents to become involved in this year’s Viva Cribb Bursary with the completed project to be made available to the whole community through Picture Ipswich.”
Ms Cribb was the great granddaughter of Benjamin Cribb who was the founder of Cribb and Foote Department Store, established in Bell Street, Ipswich in 1849 as London Stores.
During her life she was dedicated to the research and preservation of Ipswich's history until she passed away in June 2006, aged 86.
Her passion for Ipswich and preserving its past lives on through the bursary and the works it inspires.
