Ipswich youth take centre stage at film festival awards

23 October 2024

Aspiring filmmakers from the Ipswich community have been recognised for their talents at the 2024 Ipswich Film Festival for Youth (IFFY) Awards Ceremony.

Entries in this year’s competition focused on the theme ‘perspective’.

Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said she was blown away by skills of Ipswich youths and emerging talent from across the country.

“This is a platform for young filmmakers from all over to showcase what they can do, and they did not disappoint,” Cr Augustine said.

“Now in its 11th year, the Ipswich Film Festival for Youth has discovered talented movie makers from all corners of Australia, with some going on to have their work seen by audiences around the globe.”

Entrants were divided across three age group categories: 7 to 11 years, 12 to 17 years, and 18 to 25 years. Entries were judged on storyline, editing techniques, use of effects and meeting the competition theme.

“It’s a delight to witness what these incredible filmmakers have achieved. A new category introduced this year was Best Short Reel, allowing entrants to try out different filming perspectives as well as make use of film transition and editing concepts,” Cr Augustine said.

“This competition is a powerful way for entrants to delve into a topic they’re passionate about and I congratulate the winners on their outstanding achievements.

“Ipswich City Council continues to support the arts, ensuring emerging creatives in our community have
access to the resources they need to develop their skills.”
