Five new shade shelters have been installed along paths at the Ipswich Nature Centre in historical Queens Park, improving the visitor experience.
Ipswich City Council Infrastructure, Planning and Assets Committee Chairperson and Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the five shelters have been installed over the existing pathways in time for summer.
“The shelters will provide shade as visitors stroll along the Nature Centre pathway, and with the centre being close to a roosting site for migrating flying fox colonies, the shelters will also protect visitors,” Cr Antoniolli said.
“Warmer weather is now here, and families will be looking for places to enjoy the flora and fauna of Australia.
“Families can keep cool as they stroll through and enjoy the attractions and playgrounds in Queens Park. The Ipswich Nature Centre is the perfect place for a family-friendly day out.
“The shelters are a welcome addition to the much-loved Ipswich attraction. Trees have also been pruned and the centre is ready to be experienced by visitors of all ages.
“Last year, Ipswich Nature Centre welcomed more than 160,000 visitors, proving just how popular the free wildlife centre is. Now the visitors will be able to enjoy it even more, with shelters providing more shade and protection.
“Residents and visitors have loved visiting animals at this site for over 80 years, with more than 42 species and around 200 animals to see, including dingoes, bilbies, wombats, water dragons and even a petting zoo.
“This Ipswich icon was one of 47 Ipswich attractions to be praised as a Best of Queensland attraction, further strengthening Ipswich’s $300 million tourism sector.
“I look forward to seeing visitors continue to make the most of our beautiful Ipswich Nature Centre.”
