Ipswich City Council’s popular Active and Healthy Program now has an App to keep residents up to date with the latest activities, outdoor recreation and healthy eating activities on offer throughout the city.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said the App had a soft launch in November as council continued to add new content, but it was now ready to showcase the full range of activities on offer.
“The Active and Healthy Program supports and encourages the Ipswich community to become more active and develop connections through a range of free and low-cost group sports, recreation and wellness activities,” Cr Fechner said.
“In the 2022-2023 financial year the Active and Healthy Program saw participation grow to 18,554 people involved in a total of 1,112 activities/events/workshops which is incredible.
“This equates to a 73 per cent increase on participation from the 2021-2022 financial year (10,708 participants) and a 30 per cent growth in the number of activities delivered to the community (857 activities).
“With the launch of the App we are hoping it will operate as a one-stop shop on their mobile device to view timetables and book into any council’s free active and healthy activities. If you get held up at work, it even allows you to cancel your booking so organisers aren’t concerned something may have happened to you.”
Cr Fechner said residents need to register online to be part of the part of the Active and Healthy program before they can access and sign-in to the App.
“Residents just need to go to Active and Healthy Ipswich section on our website and sign up. Once they do will automatically receive an invitation to download the App and from there it’s a simple process of following the prompts,” he said.
