Pedestrian improvements at Sadliers Crossing, new dog bowls for parks in North Booval and East Ipswich, and a speed awareness sign at Collingwood Park are now in the pipeline as part of Provisional Projects within Division 3.
Ipswich City Council Infrastructure, Planning and Assets Committee Chairperson and Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the projects were progressing following concerns raised by residents.
“One of our most important responsibilities as a council is to listen to the voices of our residents,” Cr Antoniolli said.
“Local residents have expressed safety concerns when attempting to cross the road at the Burnett Street and Ferrett Street intersection in Sadliers Crossing.
“Navigating the footpath network at the intersection is challenging for cyclists and those using prams, mobility scooters, wheelchairs and scooters.
“While traffic islands are available, without a kerb ramp to connect the islands, residents find it difficult to cross.
“Council will improve this by constructing cut-throughs and kerb ramps to enable a safer and more accessible way to cross.
“This will make crossing the road much easier and safer for all, including pedestrians, cyclists, parents with prams and scooter riders.”
Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said the projects reflect a key priority for local residents - safety and convenience when travelling around their neighbourhood.
“I’m so pleased that a speed awareness sign is being installed in Collingwood Park as it will remind drivers of the speed environment,” Cr Doyle said.
“Residents have consistently raised concerns that there appear to be speeding motorists along Collingwood Drive and a sign will be an effective reminder for motorists to watch their speed and slow down if necessary.
“Meanwhile our furry friends are also catered for with the installation of two new dog bowls at the existing taps at the Honour Playground in East Ipswich and in Fail Park in North Booval.
“Our residents love taking their dogs for walks and these dog bowls will offer ease and convenience.
“Thank you to our residents who spoke up and shared their ideas.
“These improvements are so beneficial for our community, and I am pleased we can now deliver on these important requests.”
The projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program.
