Fin-tastic fun coming to Ipswich these school holidays

02 April 2025

From immersive marine experiences to robot testing, Ipswich is the city to be in to keep the kids entertained these April school holidays.

Ipswich City Council Community and Sport Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said parents and carers had a range of indoors and outdoors activities to choose from these holidays.

“There’s school holiday fun for all ages across the city. Once again, Ipswich Libraries will be hosting incredible school holiday programs with robot testing, build-a-bug, a bird show and more,” Cr Madsen said.

“All Ipswich Libraries branches will be taking part in the program, so whether you live in Rosewood or Springfield, head down to your local library and get involved.

“The ever-popular robot testing drop-in will be making a return and kids can unleash their creativity at the Creative Claymation workshop. The program is jam-packed with exciting activities for all but get in quick. Some activities require registration, or you can just show up to the many drop-in activities.

“For those who want to embrace the beautiful surrounds Ipswich has to offer, council’s Active and Healthy program has a bunch of outdoor activities to get involved in.

“Kids can come along to learn how to fish or try children’s yoga. There are bush walks, mountain biking, bird walks and plenty of sports to keep them active too.

“Last year, we were blown away by the success of the Active and Healthy program, with hundreds of kids showing up to play a range of sports including basketball, rugby league, soccer and AFL.

“This year is set to be even bigger with even more sports included, such as wheelchair basketball..

“Make sure to check out the Active and Healthy calendar on council’s website for the full list of activities and head to IpswichLibraries.com.au to register for school holiday activities.”

Economic and Cultural Development Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said Nicholas Street Precinct would be the hub of school holiday entertainment, transforming into a real aquatic adventure with Hide and Sea.

“From Monday 7 April to Friday 11 April, between 10am 2pm, the interactive marine display tent will bring a variety of sea creatures to the heart of our city,” Cr Augustine said.

“Kids can meet hermit crabs, sea urchins and a starfish while enjoying activities, entertainment, and food trucks.

“It’s no secret that Nicholas Street Precinct hosts some of the best school holiday programs, attracting people from near and far.

“As well as Hide and Sea in Nicholas Street Precinct, the award-winning Bunk Puppets will be returning to Studio 188 with their new live shadow puppet performance, BUNKTOPIA.

“Everyday items will transform into quirky silhouettes in this imaginative showcase that’s entertaining for the whole family.

“BUNKTOPIA will be gracing the stage from 7 to 17 April with two sessions each day. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids.

“Families always have an incredible time at the school holiday activities in the heart of Ipswich, and with three hours free parking in the precinct, there’s plenty of time to explore.

“Don’t forget to check out General Public for a round of arcade games or kick up your feet and enjoy a movie at Hoyts. Little ones can jump for joy at miniBounce and there’s plenty of cafés, ice cream parlours and food options to enjoy after.”
