A New Year and a new chapter in
the Ipswich journey is about to
be written. It is also important
to pause and reflect on previous
years and congratulate ourselves.
This includes residents, community
and sporting organisations, church
and service groups helping those
less fortunate and the thousands
of volunteers who help keep the
city running.
Together we have all played a role
in changing perceptions of Ipswich
for the better and seeing actions
to back up change.
I’m excited by the ICON
development, new industries and
businesses creating jobs for our
young people, and the significant
improvements to the Ipswich
Motorway and new rail line to
Springfield Central. I even get
excited about seeing Ipswich in
the credits of The Railway Man
movie.
But there is much more to a
city than bricks, mortar and
infrastructure. While sustainable
growth and jobs help to underpin
our feeling of well-being and our
sense of place, Ipswich is all about
people, pride and a place to call
home.
In 2014 I want to assure you we
will continue to put the foot on
the accelerator and drive our
city in a direction where people,
particularly young people, will be
our highest priority.

Construction is underway in the
Ripley Valley as the south-east
region’s newest growth corridor
gets underway.
The first to kick off construction is
Sekisui House who is master planning
194 hectares within the new urban
release area to be known as Ecco
Ripley, which will include a vibrant
retail and commercial town centre and
approximately 4,000 dwellings.
Since the start of 2014, Ecco

This year, with the support of all
councillors, I also want to focus
on being the ‘mayor of happy’ - a
happy city – backed by community
events such as the Ipswich Festival,
Mayor’s Carols by Candlelight, and
other events such as the Goodna
Jacaranda and Rosewood annual
festivals.
Those all-important partnerships
between council, Australian and
Queensland governments, the
community and businesses will
enable us to build further on our
successes.

and Information Centre nearing
completion. The new centre by
Sekisui House features Australian first
construction technology, which is a
great coup for Ipswich as buyers start
looking towards more innovative and
environmentally friendly homes.
Stage 1 Ecco Ripley will also feature
four hectares of parkland with
exciting amenities.
